A Fresh Start

White is all the rage right now. From the latest issue of Veranda (Happy 30th!) to all my trusted taste-makers – La Dolce Vita, Mark D. Sikes, Quintessence – winter whites are shaping up into the trendiest color of the season. And for good reason! Fresh whites are a great starting point for a new design year, and in perfect harmony with my desire to organize and simplify-  at its highest these days.

The new year finds so many of us on an introspective note. Hopefully – grateful for past experiences and excited for things to come. For me it’s one of those great chances when you get a blank page and the freedom to dream and imagine your future. In so many ways it is a fresh start – resolutions are made, plans are laid out and you begin working eagerly towards your goals.

Design-wise, a clean, crisp, white interior is the equivalent of that fresh start. Award winning designer Betsy Brown based in Birmingham, AL is famous for her fresh, layered, crisp white rooms that are richly layered and interesting.

With a perfect balance of old and new, traditional and modern, her rooms have great tension. They are dramatic yet tranquil, soft and introspective. A delight and a palette cleanser for a great design year to come.

White it is! It’s always been white for me – walls and sofa with a little color thrown in. Preferably blue.
    Loving your posts.
