OK, I am officially late to this party and probably most of you have already seen it since it was all over the design blog land this past couple of months, but it is too good to let it slide. House Beautiful kicked off this year with a lovely spread about Michelle Adams’ home makeover in its February issue and I fell in LOVE ( as I usually do in the presence of a beautiful house 🙂 Former Editor in Chief of DOMINO and co-founder of LONNY, Michelle Adams traded her bustling Manhattan life with the slower paced Midwest and purchased a colonial style house in her hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Even though the home itself doesn’t look as bad as many fixer-uppers do, there were lots of structural issues that needed to be addressed, like electrical rewiring and a complete kitchen makeover. The transformation is INCREDIBLE!
Above, a before picture of the exterior. It’s not that bad, only average looking and lacking that special factor but with a few coats of an almost black charcoal hue (Farrow & Ball Railings) + crisp white trim, it becomes a stunner!
Lanterns and strategical landscaping. Curb appeal – check!
The living room before had no electrical wiring for overhead lighting!?! How can that be?
The living room after is totally changed, exuding that easy breezy LA feel. I love it!
Two different entry vignettes, photos from Michelle’s Instagram account https://www.instagram.com
Below, the sunshine yellow dining room before, not ideal looking but with lots of potential.
And the after, all brightened up. The overall clean lines of the room are softened with the floral curtains in Schumacher’s Pyne Hollyhock print.
The kitchen before, with dark builder grade cabinets and an inconvenient layout. I love the pendant light though…
Bellow, the kitchen after.
An all white palette can never go out of trends. Shaker style cabinets with subway tile and chrome finish appliances keep it looking fresh and will be as appealing five years from now.
A sad looking little closet turns into every woman’s dream, with almost double its size! And I have serious shoe envy…
The guest bedroom before is a very happy, over-stimulating NEON green.
The after is so much better 🙂 I think this is one of my favorite rooms in the whole makeover, those touches of leopard prints are GENIUS!
And a great trick I’ll be taking from this room is to cover the doors with cut-out mirrors. Excellent for expanding small hallways, plus it doubles the view. Michelle Adams, I feel inspired!
