CUTENESS ALERT! If you still need proof that tiny homes can pack loads of style, today’s post about a small boat house might just change your mind. Nantucket is known for its architectural gems so I wasn’t all that surprised to find this pretty little thing. The owners are passionate about sailing and enlisted designer Garry McBournie to help create a comfortable place where they can relax between sailing races or simply enjoy the breeze. With less than 500 sq ft, this house has an eat-in kitchen, bedroom and upstairs loft. Not too shabby, right?

Dealing with smaller spaces can be one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences as an interior designer. It’s like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. There are so many different ways one can decorate a home, but when space is an issue, the designer needs to get that extra creativity and fit together both beauty and function.

I absolutely love this welcoming entrance! White trim, cheerful window boxes and a gorgeous front door in Benjamin Moore’s Hamilton Blue add pops of color to the weathered shingle siding.

The interiors continue the nautical theme with a palette of mostly whites and blues, and warm wood tones. Space saving solutions such as the built-in banquette, foldable table, director’s chairs and ladder access to the upstairs loft make the house functional without feeling too cramped.

Designer Garry McBournie generously shares his recipe of getting the best white, that is not too creamy and not too gray, by mixing 50% Super White and 50% White Dove , both Benjamin Moore (above). How cute are those little port holes in the kitchen cabinets?

The paintings throughout the house are by local artists. Despite its size, the bedroom has enough space for a queen size bed. I like the lovely little window and the shelves replacing usual night stands.

There’s even room for an outdoor lounge, overlooking the marina.

I can’t even get over this view, I could make this my permanent home in a heartbeat! Happy Thursday!
