California Dreamin’

One of the most talked about design books of this so-called, joke of a spring we’ve been having (Happy Monday, by the way),  is ¨Patina Farm¨ by Brooke and Steve Giannetti of Giannetti Home. As a long time reader of Brooke’s blog Velvet and Linen (considered among the Top 10 design blogs in the States), I had a feeling the book was going to be great, but it turned out even better! In little under three years, the architect + decorator power couple created their  my   everyone’s dream home in the charming little art town of Ojai, California and shared with us their story.

What makes this home so special is that it captures everything that is naturally beautiful about the Golden State, the clear blue skies, breathtaking mountain views and a slower pace of life. Nestled between the hills of Ojai, the home is a natural extension of its surroundings. The neutral palette, the use of natural elements like wood and leather, and ample windows blend seamlessly the interiors with the outdoors.

The kitchen feels open and spacious, with large windows towards the gardens. Love, love, love the rustic feel of the pot rack and those island pendants, gorgeous!

Throughout the home, carefully curated French and Swedish antiques lend the house a European farmhouse feel, with a modern touch.

The living room’s focal point is a vintage chinoiserie print. The furniture is kept neutral for its flexibility.  And who wouldn’t feel inspired with a study like this one?

Brooke’s personal working space is absolutely stunning! I’m loving the oversized lantern which suits perfectly with the proportion of the ceiling. And with a looker desk like that I would be more inclined to keep my clutter in check 🙂

Simple white linen curtains are used throughout the house and keep that airy feel of the space.

Embracing their love of nature, there’s even a menagerie of dogs, chickens, donkeys and goats, with the promise of sheep in the future. Happy chicks in this stylish little chicken coop!!!
