I hope your week is off to a great start! Monday mornings can be a little rough in our household. Especially after a particularly relaxing weekend, we find it hard to regroup and slip back into our comfortable school day / work day routine. This morning was no exception of course, and has me thinking about slower paced summer days and a much needed vacation. We have a Florida trip coming up this summer and I just can’t wait!
In the meantime, I’ve been pouring over some gorgeous Palm Beach homes that encompass that all too colorful, chic yet relaxed beach style that Florida, and Palm Beach in particular, are known for.
I’ve bookmarked a very special home that serves as my inspiration for today’s summery blog post. The property of Liza Pulitzer Calhoun and her husband Bob is a breezy oasis of casual elegance and color. Bold hues and interesting patterns, as well as large scale furniture pieces are all reminiscent of Liza’s late mother, legendary fashion icon Lilly Pulitzer and her timeless style.
The original home consisted of two small cottages that Liza and her husband had joined together by building an outdoor living room. Most life in Florida happens outdoors and the deep overhang of the vaulted ceiling makes it easy to stay dry during hurricane season. I am taken with this deep purple, eggplant upholstery on the sofas and chairs.
Peruvian ethnic prints on the dining chairs, mustard yellow walls that show off beautifully in candle light as well as painted diamond patterned floors make the dining room a cheerful and interesting entertaining place. The shell chandeliers played by soft breezes remind of the Caribbean.
One of my favorite rooms in this tour is the family room. Although at a first glance it might look slightly vintage, that chintz can conceal a multitude of sins, from peanut butter to muddy dog prints. It also plays off nicely with the textured walls. Repurposed baskets make a perfect pair of textured table lamps. I’m soooo loving that oversized vintage ottoman!
The master bedroom is less bold in its display of colors. Blues and aquas and lots of white mix with the open space feel. Sliding doors open onto the pool area.
The master bath continues the same calming blue-and-white scheme.
The upstairs home office is another charming space and I just wish we could get a look at the rest of the room. Vertical panels in a rich leafy green blend well with the intricate wood ceilings.
Guests will be happy to find there’s also an open bar area for games and dance parties!
Fun prints and a flea-market sword fish find create a lively porch swing!
Seeing this lovely home I’m more and more convinced we need to move South!
