Happy Leap Day, friends! Now that spring is just around the corner, I find it’s the perfect time to tackle some home projects I’ve been putting off for warmer days. When it comes to home improvement, there are those projects that make you cringe and dread and fear (like plumbing, electrical, tearing down walls and so on), and then there are others which, with minimum effort, give great and instant results. And I’m a huge fan of quick and easy so I thought today I’d share my go-to tricks on the home front. Some are really simple, like switching up your sofa display, others require a little bit of DIY action, but it’s all worth it 🙂
Paint. I really believe there’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to change the look of your home. Whether you choose to paint an entire room or just an accent wall, it’s the quickest, easiest way to redecorate. Just be sure to choose paints with lower VOCs (toxic volatile organic compounds), especially if you have asthma or allergies. Paint can transform a room from this:
Dress up your windows. In my home, I love to layer curtains, drapes and shades for privacy and warmth. My favorites for spring are plain white linen curtains paired with roman or bamboo shades for added pattern or texture.
Switch up your throw pillows. Seasonal sofa pillows are the best because they allow your decor to evolve with the seasons. Blues, whites, greens and cheerful yellows are a favorite for spring and summer time; I use deeper, richer, warm colors to make up for the colder seasons.
Paint kitchen cabinets. Again, a brush and a can of paint can do wonders for your kitchen 🙂
Replace hardware. That means everything from door knobs, cabinet hardware and drawer pulls. This one is super easy to do and feels like the right jewelry pulling an outfit together.
Replace light fixtures. With a great variety and accessible prices out there, you can always upgrade light fixtures throughout your home and add interest to your spaces. These days I’m more into into the rough iron look of these pendants, I think they could be great with many different styles.
Bring in more fresh flowers and greenery. A favorite of mine. I think even the best of rooms reach a new high with a touch of green.
Add a fun shower curtain.
Replace shower heads and faucets. This one way not be the most pleasant thing to do, but it’s rather easy and totally game changing.
Repaint old furniture. If you have furniture pieces that have been in your family for a long time or thrift store finds that no longer go with your decor, you can always give them a new life with a coat of paint. Just make sure you’re not painting a valuable antique 🙂
I hope you enjoyed today’s post and found at least one project that suits your home. Have a great week!
