Red Game On

September is here, my friends!!! I’m very exited about the change of seasons, I’ve been in the mood for Fall for the last three months… lol. Though I love the four seasons, September is totally my favorite. It reminds me of my childhood days, watching my grandma preserving all kinds of fruits and veggies and it was always a treat. Homemade marinara sauce, antipasto and roasted bell peppers were my favorite flavors of the Fall.  I remember how I always loved the smell of her kitchen this time of year (anytime of year for that matter, she’s an excellent cook -wish some of it had rubbed off! Ah well… ).

Anyway,  the weather starts cooling off which means it’s time to turn on the heat in our homes & decor, my favorite. And what better way than to bring in a little red? Or lots of it, if you can take it!

But don’t worry if too much red is not your thing even a touch of it goes a long way. Studies have shown that rooms decorated in warmer hues (containing red/yellow) are perceived  slightly warmer than the ones decorated in cooler hues (blues/greens).

Even though science has yet to confirm exactly how colors affect our physiology, we can all agree that color carries strong symbolism in all cultures and traditions around the world. For many, red is a symbol of energy, fire and primal life forces.

Through conditioned beliefs and common sense color associations, hues have a psychological effect on us. Red is visible, commands attention and has a strong stimulant effect on most. But we see color differently, so we react to it differently. Some people find red aggressive, others find it quite pleasing.

No matter which team you’re on, experimenting with color can be lots of fun. Try bringing in some red with home accessories, upholstery, wallpaper or even accent walls… If nothing else, red roses will do just fine!

So… let’s get our red game on, shall we? Happy Fall 🙂
