Happy Monday, dear friends!
I hope you had a lovely summer weekend. After skipping a few posts last week, I’m back to my regular blogging schedule since no day feels truly complete without a blog post, even if it’s a short one like today’s.
We’ve been enjoying the sunny weather with slightly cooler temperatures and less humidity, which have been a blessing! This weekend we celebrated our baby girl not being a baby girl anymore. Our daughter Isabella turns five today and has us on an emotional rollercoaster. We can’t believe our little one is soon off to kindergarten, these years are way too short! So much joy and cake and nostalgia…but it’s all good!
For today’s post, I’m feeling a different kind of nostalgia… related to a room and project we’ve first seen published back in 2009. House Beautiful featured an entire home decorated by one of my favorite designers, Lynn Morgan and ever since then, this room has been an inspiration. It is blue and white forever after all!
The space is a young family’s favorite hangout, open to the kitchen and breakfast nook. I love how all the earthy textures of wicker, bamboo and seagrass are layered with the more traditional pieces – the pair of English roll arm sofas and Ralph Lauren cobalt porcelain lamps. The deep blue sofas look preppy with the contrast piping, always a great upholstery detail. Corals and seashells and a nautical painting add a coastal vibe. I love every detail in here, I wouldn’t change a thing!
“I went with all the soft blues in most of the rooms so I thought all those boys deserved a little masculine navy blue, you know? You can really see my client’s lifestyle in the family room and kitchen which is one big, open space with the kind of good, unpretentious vibe I love. It’s orderly but that doesn’t mean it isn’t kid-and-dog friendly. The fabrics and furniture are indestructible. The room says, “Come on in, everybody’s welcome.” – Lynn Morgan for House Beautiful
As for all these delicious fabrics (though I must warn you, some of these are discontinued), the sofas are covered in Florian Plain in dark blue from Coutan & Tout. Throw pillows are in China seas Zig Zag and SeaCloth’s Gypsy in Bloom. Ralph Lauren Cobalt porcelain lamps sit on Pottery Barn rattan cubes. The abstract prints above the sofa add a modern touch that balances out the traditional feel of the room. Love!
