My obsession for blue and green continues!!! I had something else in mind for today’s post but I just can’t help myself! Last night I leafed through the May issue of House Beautiful and was impressed by one project in particular. Michael Maher‘s New Jersey home is simply stunning! Maher lives in a historic Victorian style house (a blend of Gothic and Second Empire) together with his two teenager sons and has created a happy family home filled with color, pattern and history. I just wish there were more shots of the rooms but among the ones in the magazine, one stood out like no other – a small guest bedroom tucked under the eaves where Maher mixed freely patterns in soft blues and greens, with cheery yellow accents!
”Maher’s zest for mixing pattern and color enlivens a dormer lined with Farrow & Ball wallpaper. The grid of a Holland & Sherry plaid sets off the curves of upholstered headboards, as well as the varied rhythms of the Serena & Lily bedding and Lee Jofa embroidered neck roll pillows. Striking a happier note, the patterned Dash & Albert rug harmonizes with both stripes and florals.” (Douglas Brenner for House Beautiful)
I’ve also seen this room in its previous iteration, with a more feminine look. You can see that the headboards and table are the same but the upholstery, soft goods and wall treatments have been completely changed.
The original design is beautiful too and would make a superb girl’s bedroom but there’s something about wallpaper and an angled ceiling that I just love. Not to mention the freshness of blue and green together! The space feels like a brand new room, more layered in patterns, and polished. I find the blue & green décor to be perfection! Don’t you agree?
