Happy Monday, friends! Summer is in full swing here in the Midwest and all thoughts (mine at least) are about fresh coastal living. Nothing like a cool summer breeze and the vicinity of water to make heat bearable. This is why I decided to revisit a fresh Southampton home designed by Ashley Whittaker. Beautifully photographed by Eric Piasecki and published in House Beautiful, this home has been in my inspiration files for years and I’m sure many of you can still remember its stunning rooms.
Ashley Whittaker is a talented name in the contemporary design industry, one of my favorites. Her work is a modern take on traditional decor with a bold use of color and pattern that is very appealing to me. Her three-part formula for updating older homes for 21st century living is, according to House Beautiful, via a gutsy palette, fearless pattern mixing and a relaxed attitude. Café Design approves!
Weathered shingles agains the crisp white trim are classic Long Island architectural details.
In the family room, an ample sofa, a pair of club chairs and a Billy Baldwin inspired slipper chair offer plenty of comfort. In lieu of the usual coffee table, a wheeled upholstered ottoman can be easily moved around for additional seating. The mix of textures and a blue-green palette set the tone for the entire home. Sisal rugs, wicker stools, velvet, cashmere and linen blend together seamlessly.
This breakfast room is cheerful and easy. The colors tie in with those of the family room. Fun French café chairs and a striped dhurrie steal the show!
Talk about pretty! I just love the contrast in this dramatic dining room. A turquoise floral print on the walls plays nicely with the coral upholstery. Everything feels chic and elegant.
Red, orange and yellow are the perfect choices for a cheery sunroom. The diamond sisal rug is a staple for rooms that have a strong indoor-outdoor connection. The treillage details on the walls amplify the garden-room experience.
Another fantastic space is the master bedroom with its delicate blue and white palette. Chintz, plaids, floral and solids – the mix of patterns is flawless!
Now this is how a kid’s room should look like -warm, comfortable and happy!
This kid’s table and chairs set is just adorable while the grown-up outdoor lounge is equally chic and comfortable!
Have a great week!
