The Garden Room

Hi, y’all! Another week, another fabulous showhouse room to share with you! Today’s beauty is part of the 2017 Lake Forest IL Design & Garden Showhouse and is the work of designer Wendy Labrum. Bringing the gardens in has never looked better! This small space used to be a porch room with beautiful garden views, but without much interest in and off itself. During the showhouse  renovation, Labrum had paneling installed and lacquered, and now the room packs plenty of drama!

What is so special about this space? In my opinion, the tension between the modern and the traditional sets the mood for a very successful design. Walls sheathed in classical panels, a Louis XVI style slipper chair and a large scale pretty chintz print create high contrast with the more modern elements: the satellite chandelier, the crisp white modern sofa and large scale abstract art.

Also, the color scheme is perfectly chosen! A deep rich green in high sheen (custom mix to match the Oscar de la Renta draperies) with pleasant yellow undertones is a stroke of genius! These bright yellow undertones are the reason why the dashes of yellow (on the chair, artwork and tulips) elevate the room instead of overwhelming it. All the white pops against the dark moody walls – the best possible choice! The room feels airy and relaxed, despite all the design drama.

Zebra hide? Yes, please! Like any zebra hide I’ve seen, it adds the right finishing touch. I can’t imagine a better choice!

This corner shot below says it all!

Note the white banding on the window treatments and  the pretty radiator box. It’s all in the details…

Unless otherwise stated, the images above are from La Dolce Vita. You can head over to LDV for an interview with the designer. And if you like this room as much as I do, check out this board I put together with pieces that create a similar look.

Do you know the manufacturer of the wonderful green and white print on the slipper chair? I adore it!
